Profile of Hilson Baptiste
HON. HILSON BAPTISTE
Mr. Baptiste was born on the 14th October 1947. He attended the Bolan’s Primary and Secondary schools and the St. Thomas (USVI) High School. He later received culinary training which has enabled him to be a chef. He is married to Mrs. Ithlane Baptiste, Principal of the Ottos Comprehensive School.
Mr. Baptiste has been the Member of Parliament for the St. Mary’s South Constituency for two consecutive terms. He was also appointed co-Chair of the UN Habitat, based in Nairobi, Kenya, for two years.
‘Brother B’, as he is affectionately known, has been a member of various village community groups. He has been active advocate on behalf of housing development and other issues facing his constituency. His number one concern: the development of the young people in his constituency.
Getting the Job Done for St. Mary’s South
Procured scholarships for 32 young persons to various universities.
Ensured the honouring of 8 persons in his constituency for their national service.
Constructed fencing around the Bolans and Urlings Primary Schools.
Upgraded and rededicated the Johnson’s Point Clinic.
Initiated the construction of a Low Income Housing Project in Bolans.
Highlighted the work of the churches in the constituency. Mounted a Summer Camp with the Bolans Pentecostal Church.
Set up Computer Access Centres in Bolans and Urlings Primary Schools, and the St Mary’s School of Excellence.
Began the process of constructing the roads in the constituency.
